Art into Furniture, Carlos Cruz Diez
The Transformation of Art into Furniture
Many people can appreciate the beauty of furniture – graceful curves, stylish lines, dramatic colors – but still place furniture in a strictly utilitarian category where practicality outweighs the beauty or artfulness of a piece. That, however, was before designer Renato Zamberlan took inspiration in the artwork of renowned artist Carlos Cruz-Diez when creating the Carlos Sideboard.
The Carlos Sideboard is a sleek, dazzling piece of furniture that marries functionality with design in a way that brings art right into your home. This is a piece that is going to bring a decidedly stylish atmosphere into a room, one that can either provide the foundation upon which the décor can be built around or as a way to bring cohesiveness to an eclectic décor. The Carlos Sideboard was handmade by skilled craftsmen who collaborated with the designer to not only emphasise the beauty of the wood, but also to find innovative ways to craft it.
The inspiration for this piece comes from the Op Art style of Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez who is known for his kinetic style and dynamic use of color, which not only draws the eye, but also engages the viewer with a perceived sense of motion. This dialogue between the artwork and the viewer is a key element in his pieces, and this is certainly something that Renato Zamberlan paid homage to when he designed the Carlos Sideboard. The amazing career of Carlos Cruz-Diez has spanned more than five decades, and his artwork has been displayed in countless museums worldwide, including a space in the permanent collections of museums such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York City, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
At Avanti Fine Furniture, we celebrate the marriage of design and art, as well as the amazing blend of styles and cultures that make up our home in Weston, Florida. We are proud to carry unique, innovative pieces that bring a sense of art into your living space.
